وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَدِمَ عَلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قِبَلِ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ النَّاسِ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ ثُمَّ، قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ هَلْ كَانَ فِيكُمْ مِنْ مُغَرِّبَةِ خَبَرٍ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ رَجُلٌ كَفَرَ بَعْدَ إِسْلاَمِهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَمَا فَعَلْتُمْ بِهِ قَالَ قَرَّبْنَاهُ فَضَرَبْنَا عُنُقَهُ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَفَلاَ حَبَسْتُمُوهُ ثَلاَثًا وَأَطْعَمْتُمُوهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ رَغِيفًا وَاسْتَتَبْتُمُوهُ لَعَلَّهُ يَتُوبُ وَيُرَاجِعُ أَمْرَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ عُمَرُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لَمْ أَحْضُرْ وَلَمْ آمُرْ وَلَمْ أَرْضَ إِذْ بَلَغَنِي ‏.‏

Traduction

Abdul Kari a rapporté qu'un homme vint de la part de Abou Moussa Al-Ach'ari, retrouver Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, qui l'interrogeant à propos des gens, ce à quoi l'homme lui répondit. Puis Omar lui dit: «as-tu des nouvelles de ceux qui sont dans les régions lointaines»? L'homme répondit: «Certainement, un homme a apostasié après avoir été un musulman». Omar reprit: «Qu'avez-vous fait de lui»? L'homme de répondre: «Nous l'avons amené et nous lui avons coupé la tête» ; Omar s'écria: «Ne l'avez-vous pas mis en prison pour trois jours, lui donnant un morceau de pain à manger chaque jour, afin de lui donner la possibilité de revenir à Allah, se repentant et se convertissant de nouveau à l'Islam»? Puis Omar ajouta: «Grand Allah! Je n'étais pas présent à ce meurtre, et je ne l'aurais ni ordonné, ni accepté, si on m'avait fait part de cet événement».
