During illness

[سُوۡرَةُ الفَلَق] قُلۡ اَعُوۡذُ بِرَبِّ الۡفَلَقِ، مِنۡ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ، وَ مِنۡ شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ اِذَا وَقَب، وَ مِنۡ شَرِّ النَّفّٰثٰتِ فِی الۡعُقَدِ، وَ مِنۡ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ اِذَا حَسَدَ [سُوۡرَةُ النَّاس] ۡقُلۡ اَعُوۡذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ، مَلِکِ النَّاسِ، اِلٰہِ النَّاسِ، مِنۡ شَرِّ الۡوَسۡوَاسِ الۡخَنَّاسِ، الَّذِیۡ یُوَسۡوِسُ فِیۡ صُدُوۡرِ النَّاسِ، مِنَ الۡجِنَّۃِ وَ النَّاسِ

Transliteration

[Surah Al-Falaq]Qul ‘A’udhu Bi-Rabbil-Falaq, Min Sharri Ma Khalaq, Wa Min Sharri Ghasiqin ‘Idha Waqab, Wa Min Sharri-Naffathati Fil-‘Uqadi, Wa Min Sharri Hasidin ‘Idha Hasad. [Surah An-Nas]Qul ‘A’udhu Bi-Rabbin-Nas, Malikin-Nas, Ilahin-Nas, Min-Sharril-Waswasil-Khan-Nas, Al-Ladhi Yuwas-wisu Fee Sudurin-Nas, Mina Al-Jinnati Wan-Nas.

Translation

[Surah Al-Falaq]Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, From the evil of that which He created, And from the evil of darkness when it settles, And from the evil of the blowers in knots, And from the evil of an envier when he envies." [Surah An-Nas]Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind, The God of mankind, From the evil of the retreating whisperer, Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind, From among the jinn and mankind.

Notes

Whenever Prophet (S.A.W.) became sick, he would recite these two surahs and then blow his breath over his body.

Related Duas

For a healthy life

اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي سَمْعِي اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَصَرِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالْفَقْرِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

O Allah, grant my body health, O Allah, grant my hearing health, O Allah, grant my sight health. None has the right to be worshipped except You. O Allah, I take refuge with You from disbelief and poverty, and I take refuge with You from the punishment of the grave. None has the right to be worshipped except You.

Abu Dawud: 5090

When Visiting the Sick (1)

لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللّٰهُ

Do not worry, it will be a purification (for you), Allah willing.

Sahih Al-Bukhari: 3616

When Visiting the Sick (2)

أَسْأَلُ اللّٰهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ

I ask Allah who is the Lofty and the Lord of the Mighty Throne that He cures you (Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) said that by reciting this dua seven times, the ill person will regain his health and if death occurs then that (death) is a different issue (i.e. death is written it cannot be prevented))

At-Tirmidhi: 2083

To alleviate pain

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ، أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللّٰهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ. (سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ)

In the Name of Allah, I seek refuge in the might and power of Allah from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.

Ibn Majah: 3522

Upon seeing someone going through a trial or tribulation

الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِي مِمَّا ابْتَلاَكَ بِهِ وَفَضَّلَنِي عَلَى كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ تَفْضِيلاً

Praise is to Allah Who has spared me what He has afflicted you with, and preferred me greatly above much of what He has created.

Ibn Majah: 3892

If you fall on hard times

اَنِّیۡ مَسَّنِیَ الضُّرُّ وَ اَنۡتَ اَرۡحَمُ الرّٰحِمِیۡنَ

Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

Surah Al-Anbiya - 21:83

When you are nearing your death (1)

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالرَّفِيقِ الأَعْلَى

O Allah, forgive me and have mercy upon me and join me with the highest companions (in Paradise).

At-Tirmidhi: 3496

When you are nearing your death (2)

لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ وَاللّٰهُ اَکۡبَرُ، لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ وَحْدَهُ، لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ لَا شَرِيۡکَ لَهُ، لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ لَهُ الْمُلْکُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللّٰہِِ

There is none worthy of worship but Allah, Allah is the Most Great. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner. There is none worthy of worship but Allah, His is the dominion and His is the praise. There is none worthy of worship but Allah, there is no power and no might but by Allah.

When visiting graves

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللّٰهُ بِكُمْ لاَحِقُونَ نَسْأَلُ اللّٰهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمُ الْعَافِيَةَ

Oh Muslims residing here, salaams on you, by the will of Allah we will also be coming to you. We seek safety for us and you.

When starting ablution

بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ
